Are you the parent or caregiver of a child whose emotions are out of control, too intense, or explosive? Do you struggle with behavioural problems at home or school? Perhaps you’d just like to know more about managing your own emotions?

Our workshop in emotion-focused family therapy (EFFT) can help.

What is it? In conjunction with the Family Psychology Centre, our lab will be hosting a workshop in EFFT, to empower parents and caregivers to be able to help their children manage difficult emotions. In this workshop, you will be given the tools of EFFT and taught to use them to first understand your own emotions, and then to become your child's “emotion coach” until their self-regulation becomes stronger.

What is the workshop like? The workshop is a two-day experience lasting both a Thursday and Friday, from 10am-4pm each day, lead by our lab’s director, Dr. Mirisse Foroughe, and consists of interactive instruction and demos on topics of understanding and managing emotions. Assorted snacks and drinks will be provided; if you wish, there are also many restaurants near the workshop you are welcome to visit.

Who can attend? Parents and caregivers of any aged child can attend, as may other adults who are simply looking to better understand their own emotions. Clinicians, researchers, and students interested in learning more about EFFT are also welcome.

What do I need to do to attend? To attend, register to indicate your interest, and we will send you more information. The registration form can be found at the bottom of this webpage.
